25 Things You Don’t Know About Me

February 26th, 2009

Finally, I have written my list as I was ‘tagged’ by Renee Olson.  So here it is …

1. I am one of seven children (not common these days).

2. My names means Friend(ly) and comes from Peter Pan.

3. I love spending time with my wonderful seven year old daughter.

4. I learned to type on a manual typewriter (that makes me feel old).

5. I am interested in anything medical and also the paranormal.

6. Three years ago, I fell off a horse, hit a tree with my head and broke my upper arm and because we were in a forest, I had to get back on the horse and ride to the nearest house to call for help.  I’m lucky I didn’t break my neck.  Until that point, I had never broken any bones and had never fallen off a horse before.

7. I love languages and accents.

8. I love all seafood and chilli and can cook a pretty good prawn chilli.

9. I’m a good proof reader and always spot errors (oh God, someone’s gonna spot a mistake in this now).

10. I hate clutter and I do all the painting and decorating at home.

11. I suffer with migraines.

12. I used to do British Amateur Gymnastics.

13. I seem to have green fingers but it’s probably just luck.

14. One of the dumbest things I’ve done when young - I skiid down a black run (which is the most difficult of all the ski runs in a resort) or should I say skiid down a quarter and slipped down the remainder on my backside - once you start to slip, you can’t stop as its very steep.

15. I once pushed my brother through a window (accidently) while playing ‘murder in the dark’.  Oops.  He was hiding behind a curtain and I pounced.

16. I can touchtype and plan the evening meal at the same time.

17. I agree with ‘if you want something done, do it yourself’.

18. I’m not good at asking for help.

19. I love reading and often would rather read than watch TV, especially as there doesn’t seem to be much on these days.

20. I hate having nothing to do and I fidget a lot.

21. I’m always smiling (except if I haven’t had enough sleep).

22. I’m one of those lucky people who never puts on weight, whatever I eat.  My philosophy is simple:  eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.

23. I can’t stand laziness, rudeness or disrespect.

24. I would love to get a dog but at the moment, even a gerbil is out of the question.

25. My biggest fear is that no-one will read my list!

Well, that was fun.  Please leave me comments underneath.

Video Upload

January 27th, 2009

I have finally made a video documenting my progress to date on Alex Jeffreys’ Coaching Program.  I used Windows Movie Maker and uploaded it to YouTube and I am now embedding it into my blog.  Here is my first video:

httpv://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gJOCHZzQDJI

There is a great Wordpress plug-in you can use to automate this process if you use Wordpress for your blog(thanks Susan Owen-Thursfield), called Smart YouTube, which I am using.

First, click this link to download the plug-in- http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smart-youtube/

Then upzip/extract these files and upload them to your website (I used Filezilla which is free to download and fairly simple).  Open your wp-content folder and then the plug-ins folder, and drag the files in.  Wait for the files to be copied across and then close your FTP.

Now log in to your c-panel (back-office), go to Plug-ins.  When you see Smart YouTube, click Activate.

This plug-in then automatically inserts your YouTube video into your blog when you type your YouTube video URL in a blog post (remembering to insert a v after http, eg: httpv://uk.youtube.com/whateveryourlinkis

Feel free to leave me a comment if you have any trouble with this process.

Generating Traffic (2) - Video Marketing

January 15th, 2009

We recently had an audio coaching session with Alex Jeffreys and the ‘Queen of Video Marketing’, Maria Andros.  This was extremely helpful and motivating with regard to video marketing on the internet as a way of promoting your website / product.  Video is a very effective medium as statistically people like watching video as opposed to reading text.  So its much easier to get your message across.  And videos are of course why www.YouTube.com has been so successful and popular.

So I will shortly be attempting to make my first video to embed on my blog and also upload on to YouTube.  Alex Jeffreys is running a competition where he is giving away $3,000 in prize money for the most creative and content packed video ($1,500) and for the person who can drive the most traffic to their video before 5 February ($1,500).  This competition is between the 500 current students of Alex Jeffrey’s coaching program.  The video has to be 10 minutes or less as this is the maximum allowed on YouTube.

When you make a video, use these steps:

It should be as if you were talking to a friend in front of you.  You should first welcome the viewer and introduce yourself.

Then establish your credibility as an expert or leader in your niche.

Try to create a hook which could be tips, a free report, etc.

Share some personal background.

Then ‘paint the problem’ - make a list of the top 10 problems in your niche and talk about them in your video.

Provide a solution

And finally, issue a call to action.  Tell the person what you now want them to do or where you want them to go.  And of course a ‘thank you for watching’ is always a good way to finish off.

You can download free software from www.camstudio.org/ to start making your first video.  You can also use Windows Movie Maker which is usually  included if you use Windows on your computer.

Generating Traffic (1) - Article Marketing

January 7th, 2009

Now children are back at school and Christmas holidays are over, its time to knuckle down and start driving some traffic to my blog.  As everyone knows, you could have a beautifully laid out site with whistles and bells and lots of great info and pictures but if you just sit back and wait for people to find it,  you will wait  a very long time and probably make no sales at all.

There are many different ways of driving traffic to your site and its easy to become overwhelmed with all the different options available, some free and some costly.  They call this information  overload.  So  the thing to do is concentrate on one at a time to start with.

So I will start with Article Marketing.  This is a very simple but effective way to generate traffic to your site and of course, its free.  My good friend, Ruth Stewart has been writing articles for a while now and is finding this method worthwhile.  You can find some of her articles at www.goarticles.com which contain some very useful tips on internet marketing for newbies.

Basically, the way it works is you write a (hopefully) interesting and useful article and submit it to article directories.  You will need to sign up with each one first.  Other people can copy these articles for use on their own sites as long as they don’t change anything and include your link at the bottom.

Articles should be between 300 - 700 words long written in an easy to read style, as if you were chatting to a friend.

Don’t make your articles an advert for your product - these will not get published.

Try and be creative or humorous when writing your article, try including bullet points or step by step lists to make it easy to follow.  Read articles in the article directories in your selected niche to get ideas for new articles.

One thing to remember though is always to follow the submission guidelines for each article directory very carefully.  They are very strict and if you do not adhere to them, they will not publish your article.

Just do a search on ‘article directories’ in Google to find as many as you could ever cope with.  However, some of the most popular sites are:

www.ezinearticles.com
www.goarticles.com
www.articledashboard.com
www.searchwarp.com
www.isnare.com
www.amazines.com

Remember your ‘bio box’ at the bottom of your article - this is where you can put your link and little information about yourself and what you are trying to achieve.

Opt-In and Get Started

December 29th, 2008

At last, I have my ‘List Building with Alex’ box on my blog - thank you Thomas Northrop for your help with this.  So anyone wanting to start building a list for their own internet business can click on it and get the FREE ebook which shows in a very easy to follow format the steps required.  You will learn how Alex Jeffreys built his list from zero to over 20,000 and of course what he does with that list.

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression - the money’s in the list - but actually the money is in what you do with your list and your relationship with your list.

You will need to sign up with an Autoresponder, the best is a company called Aweber.com, to manage your list and enable you to send emails to your list.  But don’t just send them any old emails with useless links;  you need to make sure that you are providing value to your list, for example free ebooks relevant to list building or internet marketing or making money on the internet.  This will ensure that your list remains responsive and actually opens your emails.

Don’t try and immediately sell to your list - build your relationship with them first, so that they can start to get to know you, like you and trust you.  Only then will they buy anything from you.

These are the basics which are of paramount importance and which Alex Jeffreys is teaching to his coaching students, of whom  I am fortunate to say I am one. If you missed out on his coaching program, this is the next best thing, so click on the List Building with Alex box on the left and leave your name and email to get your FREE list building ebook.

Cheers, Merry Christmas!

December 26th, 2008

Well, here we are, Boxing Day with a glass of red wine at my side and feeling quite merry.  I had a great day yesterday with my family but thought I’d get back online and write this post, since I didn’t do it the other day, after the second Brainstorming Session with Alex Jeffreys and the coaching students, AKA the Fortunate 500.

It was another great call, jam packed with really useful ideas for generating traffic eg videos, improving the look of your blog, frequent blog posts, Twitter, articles, giveaways and loads more, which I will be trying to implement.

Alex Jeffreys is running a competition with a $1,000 prize for the most traffic generated on our blogs and there are quite a few of the coaching students who are streets ahead.  But I think, for me, it will be slow and steady progress, but I will get there, and for all of you out there who are just starting out with Internet Marketing, follow and hopefully, learn along with me as I document my progress on this blog.

I am confident that by this time next year, I will be in a totally different position to the one I am in now.  As Alex Jeffreys’ says, fail forward, fail fast, learn from it and move on.

Climbing that hill with a smile on my face

December 21st, 2008

It’s Sunday evening and I am feeling extremely uplifted and encouraged by all the comments on my blog.  I am so grateful for all the offers of help and support and after the trials of last week, I know I’m not struggling on my own.  I have now managed to get into my hosting account again, register my new domain, got to grips with Filezilla (phew) and have finally uploaded the files for my Profit Pulling Platform - www.profitpullinglistsite.com .  So, I’m feeling chuffed and that I have achieved something.  (I’m also getting over this flu bug that has been going round which has sapped my energy.)

Now the Christmas holidays are upon us so I will have to plan my work around everything very carefully to keep up the momentum and start generating some TRAFFIC.

Thanks again to all my fellow Alex Jeffreys students and I will be along to all your blogs with return comments asap.

Frustrating!

December 15th, 2008

Here we are, Monday morning, and I’m still trying to register a new domain but having a few problems with my hosting company, so have not been able to do it yet.  Very frustrating.  So I haven’t been able to get to grips with Filezilla yet either.  So while waiting for the hosting company to get back to me, I will catch up on reading the blogs of the other students of Alex Jeffreys.  Back soon.

Get a slice of the 1 million up for grabs

December 12th, 2008

It is getting really exciting, going through this coaching program with Alex Jeffreys and the ‘Fortunate 500′ (I like that!).  We had a brainstorming session yesterday that was really helpful.  I am totally blown away by all the support and help that is being offered.

Here’s a link to what’s been going on to date:

I am on this internet marketing journey with all the other students and together we will succeed.
